Food trends 2017

So what will 2017 have in store for healthy food trends?

Are you a foodie?, do you love trying out new flavours and foods? There are some great foods to try in 2017, if you already are not a fan!

Pea protein

is a biggy this year, sales have steadily risen since 2015, with an average of 12% rise per year. Pea protein is used as an alternative to protein derived from dairy products, which loads of the powdered protiens are normally made from, which is great news for vegans.

Beyond Burger CEO Ethan Brown says plants are the future of protein. “Our sole mission is creating plant-based meats that allow people to eat more of the traditional dishes they love while feeling great about health, sustainability, and animal welfare”.

Purple foods

are popping up everywhere, purple cauliflower, purple asparagus, elderberries, acai, purple sweet potatoes, purple corn and cereal. The darker the colour of a food, the higher the contents of antioxidants and nutrients there are. In fact, one health and nutrition study found that those who ate purple fruit and vegetables regularly often had a reduced risk of getting high blood pressure and low cholesterol.

Inflammation-fighting foods

will be a huge hit this year and in the years to come, 52.5 million adults in USA alone suffer from arthritis, just one form of inflammation. Turmeric and ginger have been best sellers and the awareness and popularity continues to grow for these super foods. Inflammation-fighting ingredients are already trending on Pinterest. “Turmeric was one of our trending flavors in our recent Pinsights Flavor Report and specifically turmeric lattes. Ginger tea is also a trending search, up 20 percent,” confirms Stephanie Kumar, partner insights lead at Pinterest.

And Starbucks have released a new inflamation fighting drink, the Chile Mocha with Cocoa, “cinnamon and vanilla to satisfy your sweet tooth while ancho and cayenne chile spices answer the call for something warmer” -Starbucks blurb. If you don’t want to spend your money supporting a dodgy coffee company, then why not create your own at home with this awesome recipe from Baking Moment.

Hyper functional beverages

what on earth is that, I hear you ask!

It’s a non-alcoholic drink basically that has super good stuff in it like herbs, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or additional raw fruit or vegetables. One that is super trending right now is a company called Dirty Lemon, who has 4 different types to choose from, including detox with activated charcoal, there are super environmentally sound but the down side is you have to order 6 bottles at a time, the funky thing about this company, is, orders are taken through text message!
