Fix your digestion naturally

Spearmint is a sweet, mild herb that is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants such as vitamin A, C, B-complex, beta carotene, iron, magnesium, calcium, manganese, and potassium. Spearmint is wonderful for digestion, nausea, indigestion, ulcers, halitosis, and flatulence.

It can also provide relief from headaches, sinus congestion, sore throats, fatigue, stress, and anxiety. Spearmint can also help to promote blood circulation and improve metabolism making it an excellent choice for cleansing and weight loss. Spearmint is also beneficial for respiratory issues such as bronchitis, asthma, and respiratory inflammation.

You can easily grow spearmint, but grow it in a pot as it is fast spreading, you can even bury the pot in the ground so it contains its roots from spreading everywhere. You can add a few leaves to your smoothie or your fruit salad. It is a delicious flavor combination and provides an added mineral and antioxidant boost!

You can dry your spearmint (or any mint you grow) by tying bunches of it together and hanging it upside down in a dry room, pantry or kitchen, when it crisps up and it easily crumbles it is ready to put into pots that will last throughout the winter. You can use it in cooking and make herbal tea with it. It is so refreshing and makes your mouth feel clean and eases bloating when drank daily.

Benefits of coconut oil

1901302_10152055606298049_2101971449_n

We love coconut oil, its a must in our house, I use it as an all over body moisturiser and to heal chapped lips, great in cooking (with potatoes, rosemary and garlic, roasted in the oven-yummy!) good for babies bottoms instead of toxic nappy rash cream. Awesome on untreated wooden furniture as an alternative to furniture polish.

High levels of mercury found in flu vaccine

We have been against flu vaccines and the flu nasal spray now pushed on small children and the elderly for a long time. It is so much healthier and better for your body to use natural remedies, build a strong immune system so you are less likely to get ‘flu’ and realise that these companies are only in it for the money and not concerned with your wellbeing, in fact the more ill you become the better for the companies as you will end up taking more medications. The last time I was at the doctors is about 7 years ago, just before I started on our more natural journey.

Clean your home with essential oils

The average household contains anywhere from 3 to 25 gallons of toxic materials, that is the equivalent to a 24″ x 12″ x 20″ fish tank full of chemicals around your home, most of which are in the branded cleaners you buy each week from the supermarket. Add this to the air we breathe that’s filled with fumes from petrochemical solvents which are added to cleaners to dissolve dirt and in air fresheners and this makes a deadly mix of daily intoxication in our own homes which can lead to disease.

For a healther alternative try essential oils. Not only are they kinder to you and your environment but they smell amazing too.

All about Thyme and how amazing it is!

I love herbs!

I use them in cooking, in remedies, in potions for the bath and skin, I love infusing them in oil and drying them for winter, I have a cracking collection now which has been easy to build up over the past few years. My favourite is always Thyme, this grows year round even when it’s snowing and doesn’t need drying out to store, it’s also very hardy, can last for days without watering even in hot weather, grows well in shade and poor soil too although I like to put my coffee grounds on the soil for an extra boost and comes in all different types, I have lemon thyme ( which hasn’t grown as abundantly as I would like) and English Thyme.

Sambucus nigra or the black elderberry is a plant native to Europe, Northern Africa and parts of Asia

The elder tree is amazing, it’s a small to medium sized tree that can grow up to 10 metres tall. It is found in hedgerows, down leafy lanes and in dappled wooded areas. It flowers from May onwards and the black/purple berries appear in August.

It is a brilliant plant as you can use the flowers and the berries for culinary and medicinal purposes. Make sure the berries are ripe before using (a dark purple).
