How to give your body a spring clean detox.

Gut healing the vegan way

Gut healing the vegan way

We have bought a book about healing your gut  and it is really great but the thing it doesn’t tackle is, what if you are vegan?

Most of the time you read about bone broth being healing for the gut because of collagen, and I will be honest here, my partner has so much pain in his stomach at the moment we even considered for like 2 minutes actually using bone broth to fix him and then go back to being veggie, but then I thought I would look into it further to see what the alternatives are, because through this journey from meat eaters to veggie lovers, there is always an alternative, with a bit of imagination and some research you never miss out.

So this gut healing vegetable broth from Wallflower Kitchen is fantastic!

Pop over to her site for the full recipe and loads of information about gut healing and why she feels bone broth isn’t really that great

Is your non stick pan harming your family?

Per-or poly-fluorochemicals, known as PFCs, make up a multi-billion dollar family of chemicals that are widely used to make water, grease and stain-repellent coatings and for other purposes in all sorts of consumer goods, including non stick pans!. These chemicals are found all over in the environment and in our bodies, and some have been linked to serious health effects.

Learn how to cure Crohns disease naturally

Learn how to cure Crohns disease naturally

Today we had the pleasure to chat to David Donovan Brown who against doctors advice for medication, healed himself naturally from crohns disease.
What an inspirational and positive story, showing how imbalances in your body can be cured naturally.
“I was diagnosed with crohns disease in April 2015 but I had been suffering for much longer without a diagnosis.
By the time I was diagnosed I had already started to change my eating and drinking habits. I gave up smoking and consuming alcohol in June 2014 so I was already 10 months into that journey and I had also gone from vegetarian to vegan shortly before that.
In 2014 I was training for the Paris marathon and I started to notice quite drastic weight loss which ultimately lead to my diagnosis.
It turned out that my Ileocecal Valve had developed scar tissue and was almost closed and I couldn’t absorb nutrients effectively. I was also diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia and my small and large intestines were covered in ulcers.
I was told that I may need surgery to open the Ileocecal Valve and my specialist recommended that I start a 2 year treatment plan of Immunosuppressants.

10 simple tricks to sneak more vegetables in your diet

Do your meals tend to look mostly beige on your plate?

When was the last time you had a portion of veg?

Can’t remember? Don’t worry – you are not alone! According to latest research, nearly 70% of Brits don’t eat their ‘5 a day’! *

How much is enough?

Nutritionists and food experts have been saying for some time now, that the  ‘5 a day’ rule is outdated and should be seen as the minimum, not the optimum recommended daily intake. But does this mean five apples a day will keep the doctor away? What are the rules?

Shona Wilkinson, Nutritionist at www.SuperfoodUK.com, the online shopping destination for all things health and wellbeing explains, “People don’t generally seem to have a problem eating fruit and the 5 a day concept is confusing – with some thinking that the message translates into 5 portions of fruit per day. Fruit, while nutritionally good for us, does still contain natural sugar (fructose) so the ratio should be 1 portion of fruit to 4 portions of vegetables. If you eat more than 5 portions of vegetables in one day, do not exceed more than 1-2 portions of fruit”.

What are toxins and how to avoid them

After an influx of new readers (hello you beautiful souls) I thought it would be good to tell you how NWF came about and why we live without toxins and how you can get started on your journey to a purer life free from toxins and find out how to avoid them.

So what’s my story?

Well I will explain how it all started a few years ago. My eldest son James was diagnosed with some kind of autism, ADD and dyspraxia. The doctor was rather vague about this diagnosis and to be honest not very helpful but she was quick to prescribe a ‘cure’ in the shape of Ritalin. I had already read about the effects of Ritalin and other medicines given to children with ADD and ADHD, I knew the outcome wasn’t good all types of side effects including death!

I didn’t want my child on this horrible mind numbing medication but also didn’t want to live with someone who flipped out, had major anger issues, was violent and had no sense of danger. So I did the only thing I could and researched other options, I was surprised how much there was out there to harm our minds and bodies, many of which are in our foods and all have been passed by the food agencies and government as perfectly fine to consume.

I was shocked, outraged and felt overwhelmed by it all. I spent hours, days and weeks on the internet, reading books and researching all the different chemicals, additives, toxins, preservatives, E numbers, MSG, dairy, gluten, colours, flavourings, fillers, caffeine and much more.

What is earth day? share your tips and win a zine!

Today is earth day!

Although I personally think everyday should be earth day, it’s nice to remind the ‘normals’ about saving the planet. There are so many events going on to celebrate all around the world, you can find one near you by popping over to the map.

So what is Earth day all about?

Earth Day Network’s mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations.

Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 50,000 partners in 196 countries to build environmental democracy. We work through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer campaigns.

The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air ActClean Water ActEndangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed. Twenty years later, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.

Things to know before you spray perfume on your body

Have you walked behind someone and inhaled a massive stench of sickly perfume or been on the bus when some idiotic teen is spraying lynx all over themselves? It’s gross right, especially if you don’t wear it yourself, it catches the back of your throat, irritates your breathing and feels claustrophobic.

Well not only is it offensive to your nose, it’s also really bad for your body.

According to a new report released by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), commissioned by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, seventeen name brand perfume products were found to contain a “complex cocktail of natural essences and synthetic chemicals – often petrochemicals,” including diethyl phthalate, a chemical linked to sperm damage in adult men and abnormal development of reproductive organs in baby boys. Lab results revealed an average of 14 chemicals secretly lurk in common fragrances; some of which have been linked to hormone disruption and allergic reactions while others have not even been assessed for safety in personal care products.

Chemicals from perfumes, cosmetics, and personal care products are absorbed through the skin and inhaled with applied or sprayed. This pollution begins in the womb: a 2009 EWG study found synthetic musk chemicals Galaxolide and Tonalide in the umbilical cord blood of newborn infants.

STOP living in fear.

Stop living in fear.

Send out peace and love. Not just to one country but to all countries, not to one type of people but to all people, not to favour one religion but to all religions, not to who is right or wrong, not to who is poor or rich but to everyone no matter what their circumstances. There are many bad things happening everyday all over the planet, the media only seem to report on the ones they choose to, the ones that have a hidden agenda, we are all humans, we are all living in this world, not matter what colour our skin, no matter where in the world we live, no matter what language we speak, no matter how we die or what or who killed us, we all have families, mums, dads, brothers, sisters, children that will miss us. If everyone put down their weapons, if everyone woke up tomorrow and agreed to love and help each other, war wouldn’t exist. The greed, the governments and the elite few who want us to be puppets and hate, are the only ones gaining from these disasters and war.

Amazing Kitchari to try right now

You know those days where you start reading about something and end up following links and suggestions to various other amazing posts?

Well that happened to me today, I was reading about eating healthily whilst living in a van (I have this obsession at the moment with running away from Blackpool and living in a van) and in the original post there was a link to this recipe, it sounds amazing and so tasty.

Here is the article and recipe from Alexa Nehter who is a yoga teacher, retreat facilitator and author of THE CLEAN YOGI

Kitchari is THE Indian cleansing and healing food. It’s a wholesome, nourishing dish especially for those who want to detox, yet also want to feel sufficiently fueled.
